Kindness is a learned skill. Kids learn to be kind by the people and environments around them. Developing the ability to be kind and empathetic is a skill we want children to practice so it becomes natural behaviour as an adult, creating a kinder, more inclusive society for everyone.
By acknowledging kindness, we can create conversations and build positive behaviours in class and in the playground, teaching kids kindness is worth celebrating!
The Kindness Cup is currently available to schools on the higher end of the equity index (decile 6 and under).
The Kindness Cup is proudly in partnership with The LEGO Foundation.
Schools on the programme receive LEGO sets for their classes and have access to learning resources, activities and active participants are invited to workshops and events, all thanks to The LEGO Group and The LEGO Foundation!
Every year, Kindness Cup schools are given the opportunity to engage in fun, interactive and engaging events with LEGO and our team, made possible by The LEGO Foundation!
This event series, Build the Change, sees tamariki given the opportunity to build their city of the future with their school.
Thanks to support from The LEGO Foundation we hold play workshops for teachers, teacher aides and sencos within our Kindness Cup community.
The workshops explore how to use LEGO bricks to engage students to build creativity, enhance their communication, social and problem-solving skills, but most importantly, how to learn through play. Each workshop comes with LEGO to take back to school.
“Our students are being more supportive of each other in the classroom and playground, showing respect and kindness to each other. They are embracing the diversity of others and offering to support them when needed.
Some of our students that have presented with high behavioural needs have used the Kindness Cup as their goal to improve their behaviour and conflict with peers and are working really hard to implement changes and show extra kindness to others”.
“Students are showing more kindness towards each other which has helped teachers with behaviour management across the whole school. There have been less behavioural incidents and the impact for the school has been very positive!
